As of today, it will be harder to get into the patent office, especially for those without an enhanced driver's license. According to the US Patent & Trademark Office's website this enhanced security was done due to the suggestion of the 911 Commission. New York is one of 11 states whose standard license does not meet the requirements of the REAL ID Act. It is possible in New York and a few other states to obtain an "Enhanced" driver's license that would be acceptable. Otherwise, head to the post office and get a passport for your trip to the Patent Office.
